A look back at recent technical issues

First of all, as a preface to this ‘look back at our technical challenges’, I want to emphasize my great appreciation and respect for each member of the tech teams on all Legacy campuses.

I have been literally blown away at the response of the tech team volunteers on each campus the last few weeks, working behind the scenes nobody can see how quickly and efficiently you all react & jump into problem/solution mode.  Each of you have done an amazing job of keeping things running smoothly in the worst of situations.  I am incredibly blessed to have such great team members surrounding me!

So thank you for what you do, thank you for giving your time to this ministry, thank you for doing your very best for the Lord.  Without you, we could not do what we do!

Below is an overview of the most notable technical issues.

4/24/2011 – OP Campus:Computer Graphics PC freeze

  • 10:45 Service, the computer running graphics on the side screens completely locked up
  • Computer was shutdown and rebooted twice to bring back online
  • Side screens blacked out while working on the computer.
  • To get words on the screen, we routed a 2nd (backup) CG computer into video control. Ran song lyrics over video IMAG as lower third graphics
  • Computer system came back online during 3rd song, cut back to it at the beginning of special element video

4/17/2011 – All Campuses: technically, this was nearly flawless weekend

  • Olathe campus had 2 blips on the broadcast video.  Both were hardware related, on the DDR. DDR repaired on 4/19.
  • All systems ran smooth, across all campuses

4/10/2011 – OP Campus: Power Failure to entire building

  • 9:00 service, power failure in last paragraph of sermon. Lost audio on live broadcast.   LS & Olathe cut to Sat. backup recording (mid sentence). Great recovery LS & Olathe tech’s – perfect execution of backup process.
  • 10:45 service, power failure to entire OP building, just prior to going live with broadcast.  LS/Olathe shifted to the Sat. backup recording before sermon began.
  • Broadcast backup processes in place and executed perfectly.  Very little disruption with the broadcast.
  • OP campus also lost power to Worship Center Lighting, Sound system, amps & tech booth.  (No sound for Reggie’s mic, no Lighting.)
    • ran extension cord from hallway to tech booth to power up sound system & receivers.
    • powered up amps and system to give Reggie mic to finish the sermon.
    • with no lighting available, ran an extension cord with photography lights for baptism

4/3/2011 –  LS Campus: Time Warner WAN Internet failure Lee’s Summit-City wide outage (back online before 9am service start) – All services broadcast live, system status OK

  • Saturday backup recording was in place for broadcast if needed.
  • Loss of the Internet broke all phone communication, children’s check in, HVAC control
  • I went to LS to check status of equipment.  Internet came on-live as 1st service was beginning.
  • No disruption to the broadcast, Internet was working normally at broadcast start.

3/27/2011 – All Campuses: No technical issues.  All system running.

  • Lost 2 displays in OP control rm – limited CG operator’s viewpoint.  No disruption to broadcast or OP WCenter

3/20/2011 – ALL Campuses: Streambox Hardware Equipment Failure

  • 9:00 Service – LS Campus SBox hardware failure.  I went to LS and initialized OS to get system booting up.
  • At service start, I was alerted that OP SBox server had failed.  ** No live broadcast to LS or Olathe **
  • Both LS/Olathe ran Sat. backup recording.  Backup process was in placed and worked.
  • Between services – OP Campus SBox server was repaired and broadcasting video.  Repaired LS SBox and brought LS equipment back and installed just prior to service start.
  • 10:45 Service – broadcasting equipment working normally.  Both campuses ran live broadcast, all systems running.
